Arts and Culture in Vienna

Vienna is the capital of Austria. Art and culture have a long tradition in Vienna, including opera classical music and theatre and fine arts. The Burgtheater is considered one of the best theatres in the German speaking world

Grandiose Vienna was the showpiece of the all conquering Habsburg Dynasty. Monumental edifices line the city centre, white stallions strut their way down mirrored halls world class museums burst with treasures, and renowned orchestras and angelic choirboys perform in lavish concert halls.

Mariahilferstrafe, is the longest shopping street in Vienna. Naschmarket is a busy and colourful vegetable and fruit market it also has some of the best eateries in town and specialist food stalls

It has plenty of lower brow pleasures too walks in the woods, splish splashing high jinks on the river, slap up indulgent evenings in its renowned wine taverns. Most of the main sights are crammed into the Innere Stadt. The district is adorned with the outstanding Gothic heights of Stephansdom, the massive Imperial Palace, the cultured history of the Jewish quarter and a scattering of historic streets and squares. Comfortable bars abound, and international DJs are never far from nightclub turntables.

Viennas eateries cater to all budgets and cuisines. There is a preponderance of Kaffeehauser coffee houses, Heurigen wine taverns and Beisls small restaurants. The area northwest of the city, near the university, has numerous inexpensive restaurants.

Hofburg Imperial Palace is a palace in Vienna Austria, which has housed some of the most powerful people in Austrian history It currently serves as the official residence of the President of Austria. It was also known as the winter residence. The Hofburg area has been the documented seat of government since 1279.

The Hofburg Complex was built as the imperial home of the Habsburgs, and they lived there until 1918. The Kunsthistorisches Museum Museum of Fine Art a collection of armour has exhibits of ancient art, even a collection of antique musical instruments. The Winter Riding School is where the Lipizzaner stallions are trained in the Spanish Riding School. It was designed by Josef Emanuel Fischer von Erlach, and built from 1729 to 1735. Inside two galleries surround the training ground, which is illuminated by two enormous chandeliers. Most other buildings allow photography as long as the flash is turned off. There is also a butterfly aviary created out of greenhouses built from 1901 to 1907. It will take two days to thoroughly see the place.

Online Dj Turntable Scratching

online dj turntable scratching

Most bedroom DJs will end up spending an awful amount of cash on amps and speakers if they are not willing to invest in decent equipment at the beginning. When I first started Djing I was on a budget so had to stick to a relatively cheap do it yourself set-up. This ended up costing me a lot in the end as I would always blow my system. Not having a proper understanding about how to use the graphic equaliser and playing amps at a louder wattage than the speakers can take is a very common mistake amongst bedroom DJs, I know I went through my fair share of systems when starting out.

As a general rule of thumb when buying a system you should always make sure that the speaker wattage matches that of the amp. Also it is recommended that for the best possible sound quality the speaker cables for any stereo system should be at least 10% of the cost of the overall system. therefore if your stereo system cost £1000 at least £100 spent on speaker cables would result in a much clearer sound.

I would also recommend purchasing a good strong and reliable set of needles, quality needles is a must as most bedroom DJs love to practice scratching but are very heavy handed on the turntables. Which usually results in the needles snapping. Also having a spare pair of needles is always handy, there is nothing worse than a needle snapping when you are half way through a set.

Vinyl Records- A Different Perspective

As we continue to see the sales of CDs fall, it is obvious that the distribution channels of music are changing. But there is no disputing that digital downloads are the new “norm” for many people to acquire their music, be it one ninety-nine cent download or an entire album. As I ponder these changes, I still think that the vinyl record, as prehistoric as it is, is gaining popularity as well as making new fans and believers that this is the best audio format that can be heard.

As a vinyl lover, I am pretty set in my ways; no one has to convince me of the staying power and musical greatness of the vinyl record. So I was thrilled when I had a chance to interview a young man who shares the same views as I do.

I had the distinct pleasure of speaking with a nineteen-year old vinyl lover from Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada named Steve Robertson; who was gracious enough to share his thoughts and views about this old, yet treasured format. What follows is a short discussion with Steve as he shared his passion and love for vinyl records.

I asked Steve what drew him to vinyl, why does he prefer this audio format?

“Vinyl just sounds so much better; it has a unique sound that can’t be duplicated. There is a feeling of satisfaction when actually holding a physical product. And the cover art, not only from the past, but from new artists, is another reason I prefer vinyl records over any other format. I also get a sense of satisfaction in knowing that when I buy an artist’s work on vinyl, that I am supporting the musicians who release it, it just isn’t another free download,” explained Steve.

I asked Steve how long he has listened to vinyl and about what format his friends prefer.

“I have been into vinyl for several years now and vinyl is huge in British Columbia and most of my friends prefer it as well. We both like the clear sound and experience you get when playing a record. And we are interested in DJ-ing, so it fits right in. Last year I purchased a pair of Stanton turntables that have certainly helped me in my DJ-ing efforts and I plan on upgrading very soon to take it to the next level. I love the control that I have playing the music that people want to hear. The goal of a DJ is to take two different songs and blend them together in a smooth seamless way without the crowd knowing. Taking elements of one record and blending them into the other, you can then skillfully mix out the first song until it is just the new track playing. It’s like creating a new song and new music in a way. You make sure to keep up a steady stream, a continuous flow of ups and downs, it’s like telling a story, you want to keep people intrigued and interested in the music,” said Steve.

“I really think that vinyl is coming back, it sure is in our area. If my friends and I had to pick, records would be our choice and the best option to hear our music. But, they are harder to acquire, our nearest vinyl shop is an hour and a half away, so we buy most of our vinyl online.”

I asked Steve about his vinyl record collection and wanted to hear more details about his passion for D J-ing.

“To the first part of your question, I would say that I have over three hundred records, mostly classic rock like Zeppelin or Heart. But I have about seventy-five records that would fall into the electronic dance genre. That is mostly what I play when I DJ because that is what the crowd I play for wants to hear. When you’re mixing records, the control you have over the sound and the way you can manipulate the music is just like playing an instrument. You can blend and put effects on the music using your mixer or you can do some hands on scratching and add your own unique sound to it. As far as scratching goes, it’s a whole new level of DJ’ing because, in a way you are creating a sound that has never been heard before, it’s almost like live production,” explained Steve.

It was certainly refreshing to listen to Steve speak about his love for vinyl records. His enthusiasm for the format was clearly evident and especially welcome to me, a vinyl purist. And we both agreed that whatever musical genre it is that you enjoy, it certainly sounds the best emanating from a vinyl record. And that is a perspective that will help the vinyl record survive, if not thrive.

I want to personally thank Steve for his cooperation and candor in regards to our discussion about vinyl records. It is nice to hear someone from a different generation, not only passionate about the music that he listens to, but about the audio format that he chooses to listen to his music.

Rap+Hip-Hop: What’s your thoughts and will you play DJ Hero (Video game)?

April 16th, 2010 admin 7 comments

DJ Hero. Same creators as Guitar Hero.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DJ_Hero

Supposed to include tracks from a lot of hiphop artists, like Jay-Z, Beastie Boys, even Eminem. These music simulator games are actually pretty cool in my opinion. Instead of a guitar like Guitar Hero, you will have turntables and a mixer. I think a mic will be included as well. Not sure, its not being released until October this year.

Entertaining Weddings

Any bride and groom will know the endless list of things to consider in the lead up to their special day – and entertainment is definitely near the top!

Many of us will have a story or two from being guests at weddings that were memorable for the wrong reasons – whether it was the DJ playing Danny Osmond, the groom’s drunk Nan providing ‘entertainment’ on the dance floor or the magician accidentally singing his eyebrow off during his grand finale….

Now we can’t guarantee little mishaps won’t happen, but we can help point you in the right direction on how to provide unique, memorable ways to celebrate your special day for all ages and tastes …Here’s a few ideas to help make sure it’s a day that not only the bride and groom remember, but the guests too…

Music…Of course a must, but the big decision is what type; band, disco, DJ, jazz quartet… the options are endless! How about the alternative disco… offer couples the opportunity to ‘DJ’ throughout the night  – give them three songs to pick and a go on the turntables – this is a way to guarantee an eclectic mix of tunes for everyone – whilst giving guests a chance to be in the spotlight!! It’s also a great way to plan the play list beforehand.

All-round entertainer… Why not go for a wedding theme? Admittedly what may pop into your head is a tacky fancy dress party á la Jordan – not the elegant, sophisticated event you had always imagined – but it doesn’t have to be so. Why not go for a 20’s theme – giving the bride the opportunity to go for a beautiful vintage dress, which is proving to be a big trend in 2010 weddings, flapper dresses for the bridesmaids, a rag-time band, a casino table in the corner, orchids everywhere, a photo studio for guests to have 1920s snaps taken…

Create a surprise bang..Fireworks are a spectacular way to end the day – we think this would be a truly romantic surprise for the bride/groom as a special wedding day present. There are now a few fireworks companies that offer wedding fireworks, either individual fireworks, like the ‘wedding cake’ or readymade packages, or even a bespoke display co-ordinated by a pyrotechnic team.  Displays can be chosen by time length, type of fireworks, for example crackling, glittering, spinning, whistling, or even by colour so it can match the theme of your day, whether that’s pink, silver, gold or green.  Definitely a spine-tingling crowd pleaser!

Bouncy Fun… Good for the kids in the day (just make sure you have somebody watching over them!) whilst the adults can enjoy socialising, eating, drinking and general merriment. Once the children are in bed the adults can turn back into big kids to enjoy the fun too – just watching this is brilliant entertainment in itself once people have had a few drinks!

These are just a few seeds we’ve sown to get your creative juices going for planning the big day and making it special – just make sure you do something which you want and that will ensure you and your guests have lots of fun to make it a day to remember!

Dj Turntable Beats

dj turntable beats

Understanding the Fundamentals of Turntables

In there ever evolving world of Turntablism and DJing there a misconception or belief of what exactly scratching is. Most new DJ’s think they know how to scratch but rather they make a horrible noise with ear piercing sounds. The type of sounds that would cause the dogs in the neighborhood to howl.

For those who don’t know what scratching is or how to scratch properly please read carefully. In essence scratching is the movement of a vinyl or LP record back and forth to make a unique beat or sound. This is the fundamental idea that has given birth to Hip-Hop and other genres of music that involve turntables.
Scratching is not moving a record back and forth to make a noise. If you learn how to scratch you can create entire new beats and rhythms from one or two records.

Scratching has a wide variety of ways and techniques to perform different beats and sounds. There are baby scratches, combination scratches and beat juggling. These techniques all require excellent control over turntables and a crossfader. Beat juggling is one of the most advanced “forms” of scratching. Beat juggling is the peak of perfection when it comes to scratching. With scratching you can mix in your next record for a smooth transition. With beat juggling you create a whole new beat and rhythm. In theory beat juggling is creating a new song or sound from one or two records.

So for all those DJ’s who think they know how to scratch remember this, there is a difference between thinking you know how to scratch and knowing how to scratch. Knowing how to scratch is an art form. Take lessons, read about the latest tricks and tips. Do something that will make you better.

About the Author

I enjoy music. I’m sure many people do. However, when going to a nightclub or party, I prefer that someone keeps me entertained with music and not noise. Anyone can make noise. DJ’s make music.

Live Music!

“Live music.” That common saying may contain some truth, but these
days the word “live” is having less and less to do with music. For many
people, a dj is their form of live music. Despite what dj’s would like
to have you believe, musicians make excellent entertainment.

In the first place, people enjoy human performance. Many musicians
like great athletes are multi-talented. They will croon on the tenor
saxophone right to your soul, then turn around and chunk out a funky
rhythm on a Fender Stratocaster. Can a dj play a turntable behind his
head or with his teeth? Professional musicians love to sing and groove
on just about any style of music from a Frank Sinatra to Outkast. They
especially enjoy playing when the audience is responding to their
performance.

In the second place, musicians are students of the arts. Musicians
do not merely “push buttons.” They’ve had years of practice in their
homes, and they do their thing on stage. Unlike dj’s musicians do not
try to sing over or add other loud or strange noises to program music.
Once a song starts it flows to the end and in the unfortunate event of
a power shortage musicians can continue to entertain acoustically until
power is restored. Even non-professional musicians usually understand
“the show must go on” concept.

Lastly, one of the most attractive features of bands as
entertainment is the affinity between them and their audience. Watching
a great drummer is never boring because they’re constantly
moving…feeling. An animated solo violinist playing an old wooden
Stradivarius violin has a much greater chance of reaching into your
soul and stirring your emotions than a dj with an array of magnetic
speakers and digital amplifiers no matter how great his system sounds.
It’s an apple trying to be an orange. It’s the difference between human
blood and electricity.

Contrary to popular opinion, bands can be affordable. Just like with
a dj, finding a band well in advance and securing them with a low down
payment, the price can be negotiated to avoid costly or inadequate
entertainment. Bands will even throw in a free cocktail hour or an
extra half hour at the end to secure a date! Many bands are now
offering “dj time.” This is when the musician hat comes off and the dj
hat is put on to play the Techno, House, Hip-Hop, etc…Genres of
today. People who have small parties should appreciate these
characteristics of bands. However, many people who have large parties
opt to have bands because they love the musician personality. In many
ways, musicians are the ideal entertainers.

Trance Dj Equipment – Get A Professional Dj Setup For Less

Buying the right DJ equipment is one of the most important areas you need to look into if you are to take to DJing seriously. With so many different types of equipment available you need to know what products are best for your needs before buying anything.

For example, a Trance DJ will have very different needs to a scratch DJ. When it comes to buying the turntables, mixers, even styluses the right choice makes all the difference.

DJ turntables come with different levels of torque, tone arm design, and drive. It is by far recommended by many DJs that you opt for a direct drive turntable, which have a higher level of torque. Technics, were for a long time, classed a world standard in professional DJ equipment, although some of the competitors are now very much standard in their own right and all produce direct drive turntables.

The tonearms supplied with turntables also vary. Some manufacturers have S-shaped arms, whereas others use the ingenious straight tonearm. Straight tone arm technology is great for increased tracking of the vinyl grooves, as are different shaped and angled styluses and can help a scratch DJ be more forceful with their records, although the S-shaped arm is just as adequate and will help train the DJ to manipulate the vinyl more accurately.

Mixers again vary to a great degree. Some are more geared to the professional DJ, some to scratch DJs and turntablists. The crossfaders characteristics, EQ quality and variation change dependent upon the manufacturer, not to mention the number of inputs. Take a look at other setups used by DJs within your style and see what they’ve opted for.

Speakers are an important element of the whole DJ setup. You need to be able to accurately hear what you are doing and cheap speakers are likely to hide some of the finer details the DJ needs. Again, with headphones the quality of these is also of high importance and for the exact same reason.

And then we get onto the cables. The quality of your cables will determine the quality of the sound you get from your speakers. You may have the best DJ equipment and top notch speakers but you could be strangling them with poor quality cables.

Before making your purchase it is well worth looking into what is available within your budget and try to get the best deal, not only financially but also in quality. Try to reach your budget by buying better quality DJ equipment, rather than getting the best price and saving money. If you’re going to enjoy DJing you don’t want the quality of your equipment holding you back because of a few pennies.

I Threw Every VIDEO EDITING LAW OUT THE DARN window on this one… Why because I can … This short piece was not for Hollywood or any corporate commercial etc… I wanted it to look underground and fast and JUMP all over place and something that diden’t really look like anything we are use to seeing. I shot this all my self and did everything else … From the Chicago House Dj .com headquarters to your eyes … The 2nd house music video from Chicago house dj .com
