Cartridges:

Cartridges are what actually play the songs. The Shure M44-7 Competition Cartridge or the Ortofon Elecktro Concorde Cartridge is a highly reviewed cartridge that will not break your budget.

Mixer:

The Reloop RMX-40 DSP owes its name to the effect unit which gives DJs in addition to the send/return loop for external processors also a choice of integrated effects like Pan, Trans, Delay, Echo, Flanger, Filter, Phase and Pitch Shifter. Linked to the beat counter, the effect parameters can be assigned to the various beats or simply manually modulated with a time and a level/depth parameter potentiometer. Especially DJ-friendly is the RMX-40 series with a headphones output that features an equalizer and a mono switch. Additionally, all channels have reversible faders with variable curves, their own level LEDs and automatic beat counters. The cross fader controls all input channels, activates the sources with Fader Start and cuts their frequencies using the Kill Switches. Technology for the pro!

The Xone XD-40 offer excellent audio fidelity in a comfortable, lightweight and compact format. The closed cup design provides good isolation from ambient noise, and minimal bleed. The extended, punchy bottom end is complemented by a crisp and detailed mid and upper range. They are light and well padded, making them more comfortable and less fatiguing for extended use.

Virtual Dj Turntables Usb

July 6th, 2010 admin No comments

Being a DJ famous all over the world is something every teenager dreams about at a certain point in their life. A few years ago, there were only a small number of people who knew how to play music for a live audience. Nowadays, with all the technical development, becoming a DJ is easier and easier. First of all you need to be really determined to succeed in the business. It is a business, indeed, and quite a big one. There are certain DJ’s out here who mix for pleasure, but most of them they do it for money. In the beginning you will not make that much money, so being a DJ is more like a hobby. But with patience and, most important, practice, the times to make a living out of it and even a bright career are not too far. In an area like South Florida, where you can find a large number of nightclubs, there are so many chances for you to prove your skills.

Let’s start with the basics. Being a DJ requires a few skills: to have an impressive musical knowledge, to be able to entertain and “read” a live audience and to know to use the equipment needed.

For the beginning, you need to get familiarized with the equipment. The basic tools you’ll need are: a mixer, turntables or professional CD players, professional headphones (will not distort the sound at high volume) and amplified speakers. Later on, as you become more advanced in mixing you can acquire more equipment.

To make things a little simpler, lately more and more DJ’s are using the laptop and designated software to do the mixes. For the laptop you need to choose a good brand, to make sure it will not crash in the middle of a gig and if it’s possible to have an USB sound card. You can find dedicated software, but usually you find the demo version and after that you will need to buy the program in order to use all the features. Most common used programs are Virtual DJ and Traktor, but you can also find and use other dedicated software.

Before you invest any money in the equipment, is useful if you can arrange to mix on somebody else tools. When you will go out to buy your own stuff you’ll know exactly what you need. It is extremely important to know how to do beatmatching, meaning to match the bass beats between the song playing and the next one in a seamless transition. It takes a lot of practice, but once you know how you may try more advanced things like scratching or backspinning.

If you use the laptop everything becomes easier, the programs will show you the BPM of every track, so beatmatching will be piece of cake.

In order to learn as much as possible keep in touch with the DJ world by watching other DJ’s at work and understanding how they use the equipment, checking the forums and being constantly updated with what is happening around. In South Florida there is always something going on, so that is really easy to do. Also you may spend some time online and watch the tutorials about DJ’ing and different techniques, tips and tricks.

A new trend in the market is called DVJ’ing, correctly DJ VJ (Disc Jockey, Video Jockey), but when Pioneer launched the DVJ 1000, the device which allows you to play music and video effects in the same time, they also gave the right name to it. It’s highly requested in the market, so if you learn how to do it, you will have a better chance in getting more gigs.

Maybe the most important thing, beside your strong will, is the time you offer for practice, the more the better. The results will show up, we are absolutely confident about it.

I am about to buy some turntables. How necessary are Technics?

April 23rd, 2010 admin 3 comments

Meaning, I could get a better mixer if I could some Numarks or something. How important is the quality of the turntables vs. a lower quality mixer. As far as my plans go, I plan on scratching and mixing (I plan on a serato too) but not like, battle dj-ing.

Need help connecting my turntables & mixer to my laptop!?

April 17th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I have the Numark 818 Fusion package that comes with 2 turntables & a mixer. Its a really nice set and I’m pleased with it but the only problem is that no one can seem to tell me how to connect to my computer via usb or sound cards or whatever. I’d like to use my turntables on a program I have for my laptop to produce music. I know that Numark just came out with turntables that allow you to do so but I DJ with CDs and those are for vinyl. I love my set and don’t want to get rid of it so if anybody knows a way to use them on the computer without buying a whole new set, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a Dell inspiron 1521 laptop with vista on it, if that helps.

Please by as specific as possible; telling me to connect it with a cord isn’t the anwer I’m looking for. I need to know what kind or like exactly what to do.

what are some affordable turntables and mixers for a scratch dj?

How to you cue up a song to mix when using vinyl turntables?

April 17th, 2010 admin 1 comment

Ive been asking alot of DJ questions lately because I want to knnow exactly what to buy. Right now this is what is going to happen

2 Stanton T.62 turntables
Numark M4 DJ Mixer
Traktor Scratch Duo Pro

When DJing with vinyl turntables, do you use the software to cue up the song or do you use the timecoded vinyl (the vinyl that comes with traktor)..or how exactly does it work?

Turntables vs Cd players vs Computer Software?

April 17th, 2010 admin 1 comment

What are your thoughts? Think before you answer. Consider what each one can do and what progressions can be made in the future. What do you think is the future for DJ’s? Will it stay vinyl all the way or will MP3’s take over?

I got DJ turntables and a mixer – what should I buy next?

April 17th, 2010 admin 3 comments

Also bought “How To DJ Properly” – waiting for it in the mail. please help.
I have alot of soul/funk/disco and 80s records, with a little bit of house for good measure. Based in Glasgow area.

What are some Quality Turntables for a New DJ?

April 17th, 2010 admin 1 comment

Hey! So I’ve been taking DJing lessons for about 4 months now and want to actually buy my own gear. I’ve got TORQ software and Connectiv box for my laptop – but what Turntables are good to pick up?

Numark or Stanton? I see Ion is really cheap – but you probably get what you’re paying for.

I’m looking to spend about $350 range on each turntable.

Suggestions?!?!? I want to get something decent that I can still learn on, is somewhat affordable but I could sell and get better quality ones in a year or so when I get some cash from doing gigs, but won’t crack and break in 8 months

Are USB turntables compatible with all operating systems or do you have to buy specifically for mac or windows?

April 16th, 2010 admin 1 comment

Hi, Im interested in buying a DJ twin turntable deck and I want a USB one as I have a large library of mp3s and was wondering if there are specific mac turntables and windows turntables or if they are lies and it doesn’t matter what operating system you have. I’m asking this because I have a mac and there are very few that say they are for mac and are considerably more expensive then some others I’ve seen. Also, could anyone recommend some good ones? Thanks in advance.

TV Guy does that mean its just the software that comes with it would be for a specific Operating System? If this is true I could buy one with windows software then ignore the software provided and get mac compatible software?

I am buying my DH dual turntables for his Bday. Is direct drive the best? Any Suggestions?

Turntables and Preamps and Mixers.. AAHH its driving me CRAZY!?

April 16th, 2010 admin 2 comments

okay, someone please help me with all this. I got a lot of questions. First of all, do you have to have 2 turntables if i want to scratch? Every video i see, people have whole stations set up with all their equipment. I want to buy a turntable to scratch and get into DJ’ing, but i want ONE not TWO, so is that possible? Second of all, what is a preamp and do i have to have one? Third, what is a mixer and do i have to have one? Fourth, How will i set it all up. The turntable i might be getting is not a USB turntable. (what are the other kinds called, the ones that are not USB?) but yeah so how will i connect it to my computer and preamp and all that stuff. Some one please help me out, its SOO confusing, and i reaaaly want one.

PS: Can you tell me what kind of turntable this is, like if it is belt or direct drive and analog and all that good stuff:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000750W8I/ref=pd_luc_mri?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A334S037RVBVHO&v=glance

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!
See, the thing with mixers is, they are Really Expensive. (For me, at least) Right now, all i really need a turntable for, is to scratch. Im pretty sure you dont need a mixer for that. I am not sure if the turntable i might be getting has a amp built in, so i will probably have to buy an external preamp. They are pretty cheap. I saw one for 30 bucks.

Want to but 2 turntables + mixer + speakers. Should I also buy an amplifier? Is it a MUST? When and when not?

April 16th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I want to buy DJ equipment, and I am an absolute beginner. Will someone please tell me, whether buying an amplifier is a must. I am planning to buy 2 turntables, a mixer and speakers. I am curious – how to figure out (given i am offered 2 turntables, mixer and speakers) whether I should also ask for an amplifier.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if this set of turntables will work out?

April 16th, 2010 admin 3 comments

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gem-Sound-SK-10-DJ-Mix-Kit-800500-i1155411.gc

It’s from Gem Sound which I assume is a cheap brand. I’m a beginning in every sense of the word, I haven’t scratched a day in my life. I been producing hip hop for about 3 years and I just want something where I can play old records on and maybe do some mild scratching on.
Will this be okay for me?
