Basic Questions about Virtual DJ?

May 2nd, 2010 admin 1 comment

Alright so I’m brand new to dj-ing and need a few questions cleared up! I have virtual dj and need to buy turntables….im looking at the denon tt-200 and the denon tt-1650 so which one is better? also im looking to buy the dxm06 mixer so how does that sound? My first question is dealing with virtual dj…….i dont understand how the whole vinyl record thing works and what time coded vinyls are or do? Do you just buy a blank vinyl, put it on the deck, and play the music through virtual dj and just scratch and crossover with the records? or do you have to actually put songs on the records? Serato is def out of the question, i know its the best but i cant afford it! Any answers to these questions is most appreciated and I will give out points to the best helpful person out there;) THANKS!!!!!!!

I am about to buy some turntables. How necessary are Technics?

April 23rd, 2010 admin 3 comments

Meaning, I could get a better mixer if I could some Numarks or something. How important is the quality of the turntables vs. a lower quality mixer. As far as my plans go, I plan on scratching and mixing (I plan on a serato too) but not like, battle dj-ing.

Yo DJ’s I have a question about buying some technics turntables?

April 16th, 2010 admin 2 comments

I’m in the process in buying some technics turntables used to spin house music but what is the difference between Technics SL-1200MK2 and Technics SL1200M3D turntable? Does it really matter which one I choose because I’m just a beginning dj. Just want to make sure I”m getting the right one for the house music style.

I have wanted to be a DJ for too long and am ready to start! Question about turntables…?

April 16th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I have little experience with turntables. However, have a passion for electronica and have dreamt of becoming a DJ for years! My sister’s boyfriend in San Francisco uses them and back home my friends spun a lot of drum n bass, so messin around on theirs is about all the experience I’ve got! But I know I’ve got a touch. There is this ad on Craigslist that looks like this:

Selling a full DJ setup. 2 turntables and a mixer in an Odyssey DJ hard case. One table is MCS and the other is American DJ, the mixer is Newmark. Comes with extra cables, and a crate of records, many are battle records(full of beats and samples)”

This setup is $200 dollars and looks very nice. Since I am a beginner, would this be an okay setup for me? Or are these brands cheap in that NO ONE should use them… I really need some advice here. I don’t have a lot of cash but could very well do $200, it’s a start after all right? Anyways, an opinion would be great. Thanks!!

how do I go about setting up CD turntables up to a laptop, what do I need to do it?

I already have virtual DJ on my laptop and I am using a HERCULES DJ CONTROL, so what do I need to move up and start using either real turn tables or CD turn tables

April 16th, 2010 admin 1 comment

Anyone like to read about some really funny true stories from UK?

A guide at Windsor Castle was struggling to make herself heard over the roar of low flying aircraft coming into land at nearby Heathrow. She was interrupted by a tourist who demanded what was wrong with the town planners, and why had they built the castle so close to the airport.

The highlight of a cruise liner’s visit to the Alaskan port of Valdez was a guided tour of the southern end of the great 800 mile pipeline through which, the guide informed them, some 1.3 million barrels of oil came daily from Prudoe Bay in the north. When he asked if there were any questions, someone solemnly enquired, `How do they get all those empty barrels back up to Prudoe Bay?’

`Good home wanted for year-old Basset bitch. Understands every word I say, but ignores it.’ Card in Portsmouth shop window.

A group of tourists escorted around the British Houses of Parliament suddenly found themselves in the presence of the then Lord Chancellor, Lord Hailsham, resplendent in full wig and gown. Spying behind the group the figure of Neil Marten MP, the Lord Chancellor called out in greeting.`Neil’ with dignified vigour. And all the tourists did.

A tourist, on a driving holiday in Britain was reported to have been overcome by the Cotswolds but astonished at the number of villages with the same name. `After Chipping Sodbury,’ he said, `there were three villages in a row called Loose Chippings.’

An English classics scholar, trying to impress his tour party colleagues on holiday in Athens, offered to converse in Greek with the local ferry officers at the docks to enquire about departure times. The locals, after recovering from fits of laughter, then revealed to the rest of the group, in perfect English, the scholar’s question: When do the galleys sail for the Isle of Aegina, O sailors?’

In 1981, fifty San Francisco nudists arrived in Miami for a national convention to find their airline had lost all their luggage, including their clothes.

The 1982 Association of British Travel Agents conference in Phoenix, Arizona, had to change its venue at the last moment when it discovered that its original hotel had been double booked.

The story is told, apocryphal no doubt, of the DJ working on a small and remote radio station in Scotland midway through his programme late at night on 1 October 1977. News came to the station that Bing Crosby had died (the station producer happened to be on the phone to the States and picked the word up almost as it occurred). The DJ thought he could possibly be the first person in the UK to publicly announce the death, so he put on a long track and rushed off to record library to get an old recording to play. Upon returning, nervously excited by now, he put the first record onto the turntable without looking at it and broke into the record then playing with a sombre voice: ‘I am deeply sorry to have to inform’ you listeners that I have just received news from America of a great tragedy. The legendary Bing Crosby is dead. As a humble tribute, I would like to play one of his songs,’ and as he switched over to his Crosby ’selection’, the melody was beamed out, ‘Heaven . . . I’m in Heaven…’

Need help figuring out stuff about DJ setup?

April 16th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I’m using various DJ softwares (like VDJ and Traktor) and plnning 6to start DJing. I’m gonna get a DJX 700 ixer from behringer for around 100$ and two turntables with timecoded vinyl for control. I don’t know what interface to get for timcoded vinyl. I was looking at the numark one and stanton’s FinalScratch (scratchamp), but I’m not sure what to get. I’d rathr get something that can work with more than one program (like Stanton’s ScratchAmp-Open) thats also cheap.
And can this be used to connect just the mixer to the PC too, like a soundcard? before I get the turntables.
I also need turntables. I was looking at the Technics SL1200’s, but they’e a bit too pricy for me. I also looked at the stanton ones like t.50 and t.80, but t.50 is belt drive (can belt drive scratch well?). What is a good option for me.
-Please help
-thx -Joseph

Questions about Rane Serato Scratch Live (DJ Equipment That Hooks Up To Computer)?

April 16th, 2010 admin 2 comments

Basically, I know what it is obviously you put the two CDs in your turntable (unless u have vinyl) connect it to the box then laptop then just drag mp3 on the computer n boom. Couple questions though, 1. Can you use programs like Virtual DJ or does it just have its own program your only allowed to use and if you can use multiple programs which one is the best? 2. For most DJ programs, the BPM is read and when you drag a song, it automatically matches the BPM, or theres a one-click feature for that, do the DJ Programs that are compatible with the Serato Scratch live have that feature? and 3. Stupid question not expecting to get a solid answer but where’s the cheapest I could find it? So Far I’ve found it for around 500 on eBay. Thank you.

Commercial/youtube video about a dj using a turntable to rewind time and correct things that go wrong?

April 16th, 2010 admin 1 comment

It was like a ball led to a lady dropping her groceries or something and each time the dj would rewind time to fix what goes wrong but then something else does. Memory is really bad on this one but work with me on it, if you can find this video i will worship you forever
